Tokyo Cafe at SM The Block ♪♪♪♪♪

After a two year hiatus, I recently dined at Tokyo Cafe to discover that the food was still great. Even the welcome greeting stayed the same-Konnichiwa delivered in exuberantly confident tones. I just can't remember if they said it with a slight bow to add a certain degree of the trademark Japanese courtesy to it or not.

Tokyo Cafe is actually a Japanese-style family restaurant that offers Western dishes with a distinct Japanese touch. Don't be misled. It is not a Japanese Restaurant in the strictest sense of the word. But somehow even the most hostile customer had been converted because of the delicious food and cozy atmosphere. My good friend Cel and I tried these wonderful dishes to our absolute delight. The only thing we forgot to do was to say Itadakimasu (Japanese for "I will eat"), a customary Japanese conversation piece before eating and Gochisosama deshita the supposed greeting afterwards. That much I can remember. I just don't know if it's still enforced though.

Mango Chicken Salad (Php 188).
Luscious ripe mango cubes, juicy seedless grape halves and sun-ripened tomatoes are served on a bed of festive romaine lettuce topped with a dallop of succulent Chicken salad with the optional drizzle of the creamy Ceasar dressing on fresh greens.

Creamy Ebiko Pasta (Php 268).
I always order this whenever I'm at the cafe. I love it that much! Delectable shrimps, tasty karashi ebiko (Japanese fish roe or eggs) are tossed in a bed of spaghetti cooked al dente and smothered in tomato cream sauce.

Shrimp Aglio Olio (PHP 250).
Perfectly plump shrimps, diced green peppers and crushed garlic provide structure to the al dente spaghetti sauteed in olive oil. The dish is topped with Parmesan cheese for extra flavoring and some herbs to add some freshness to it.

Iced Café Au Lait with Coffee Jelly (PHP 65).
This lovely pair is offered during lunch time only. A must-try and a great money-saver too!

Mango Parfait (Php 121).
An interesting fusion of luscious mango cubes, rich mango sauce, vanilla and mango ice cream topped with a generous amount of whipped cream and finished off with an inviting swirl of mango sauce and crunchy wafer stick.

Azuki Parfait (Php 121).
This dessert was a revelation! Vanilla and green tea ice cream are paired with layers of irresistibly sweet n' red azuki beans and topped with a towering whipped cream plus a crunchy wafer stick to boot!

If you live in the heart of Quezon City, visit Tokyo Cafe at SM The Block sometime for its delish dishes and delectable desserts. You won't regret it.
