A Taste of the Korean Drama Secret Garden @ Caffé Bene Eastwood

Secret Garden Poster @ Nice Mart

If you're a huge fan of the K-Drama Secret Garden, then you're most certainly familiar with this super cute scene between Gil Ra Im (played by Ha Ji Won) and Kim Joo Won (played by Hyun Bin) at Caffe Bene. (Click to watch) :)

You can just imagine how ecstatic I was when I found out from Ruffecola's Travel Tales that Caffé Bene has opened its very first shop in the Philippines two months ago. :)

Last Saturday, my family of three finally found a way to visit Caffé Bene at the ground floor of Eastwood City Walk 2. Interestingly, it's significantly located beside two other popular cafes, Starbucks and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

We walked past these two cafes and headed towards Caffé Bene: A must-see place for any K-drama/K-pop fan, if you ask me. I started snapping a few photos at first, for I wasn't really sure if photo-ops were allowed inside the cafe. But when I saw the other customers doing the same thing, I threw away my shy persona and turned into a mean pic-taking machine, so to speak. :-)

Thankfully, Tutapel was easily coerced that night to do some poses of his own. :)

While waiting for our food to be served, I can't help but admire the elegant wood wall panels and the warm, cozy feel of the interiors.

Caffe Bene's signature clock, an instrumental part in that famous Secret Garden scene, was also displayed on the wall. It was really a unique accent piece, if you ask me.

My attention shifted to our food when the kind staff finally served it. Although I was clearly excited to try everything, I was also a little bit concerned on how the three of us can finish everything- considering that Tutapel wasn't really a big eater and all.

My Thoughts:

Blueberry Cream Cheese Liège Waffle (Php 165). Warm, toasty waffle topped with cream cheese and blueberry jam.

Caffe Bene Philippines
(Eastwood City Walk 2 Branch)

Totally to-die-for confection for it literally created a symphony of flavors in my mouth! A little sweet 'n' salty, thanks in part to that delightful slab of cream cheese on top, while the tartness coming from the jam, sealed in all the wonderful flavors in that petite serving. A great comfort food that I will never get tired of eating, over and over again. :-)

Caffe Bene Eastwood City Walk 2

Choco Banana Honey Bread (Php 155). A huge, thick slice of warm and toasty bread topped with whipped cream, almond and banana slices, chocolate chips, granulated sugar and served with cute choco swirls, too.

Up close, the bread was a tad bigger than I initially thought. I expected a slice of  thin bread just like at Caffe Ti-Amo's; but, obviously, I was mistaken. Primarily designed as a comfort food in between sips of coffee, the confection though delish, was a bit too overwhelming to eat, maybe because of its super crunchy and thick crust. Great for sharing; though, I'm not at all sold out when you're dining alone, not unless you're a certified big eater or someone who doesn't mind taking doggie bags.

Caffe Bene Philippines

Mocha Frappeno (Large 145). Sweeter than expected made even better by that mild caffeine punch. Enjoying coffee-based drinks is rather new for me because I've always preferred the cream more than the coffee, well, not until recently.

Caffe Bene Eastwood City Walk 2

Coffee Bingsu (Large: Php 195). Just like its Pinoy counterpart called the halo-halo, this particular Bingsu variant overflows with an array of delish toppings such as red beans, almond slices, cereals, choco chips served on a bed of ice shavings and topped with a scoop of coffee gelato.

Caffe Bene Eastwood

With soft ice shavings comparable to Razon's famous Halo-Halo, the Caffe Bene version, particularly its Coffee Bingsu, has a plethora of interesting toppings of varying textures and tastes. When combined, every bite becomes a delightful medley of crunchy, chewy and crispy sensations. A definite must-try!

Caffe Bene Eastwood

To be honest, I was drawn to make a visit to Caffé Bene because it was a significant place in one of the most popular scenes of my favorite korean drama, Secret Garden. During our visit, however, I soon  discovered that the cafe had sooo much more to offer.

Next time, I would definitely drag my friends Mars Cel and Charm to try out a scoop or two of their gelato...

And maybe, just maybe, I can muster up the courage to don that elusive cream moustache as well. :)

And while you're at it, I've taken the liberty of posting some eye-candy videos featuring a roster of Caffe Bene's former and present day endorsers- simply for our absolute enjoyment. :)

Let's start with the Jang geun-suk and Han ye-seul team-up in this lovely commercial.

Enjoy 30% Off Regular-Priced Accessories @ Forever 21 Until February 2013!

I've been looking for a statement necklace for sometime now and I was ecstatic to discover that my favorite boutique store Forever 21 has an on-going sale. 30% off regular-priced items worth 300 and up is not bad at all! :-)

While perusing the store for possible purchases, my friend Mars Cel and I came across an elegant looking emerald/gold necklace that was just right for everyday use. It wasn't that sparkly and overpowering which we thought was perfect for formal tops as well as tees.

And of course, the second best thing about it is that it was on sale! In fact, not only necklaces were on sale; but earrings, rings, bracelets/arm candies, too! How great is that?

Take a peek at some of the accessories on sale at Forever 21 until Feb 2013! :)

Really? Colgate Plax Fruity Fresh Mouthwash for Just Php 12???

I'm not kidding!

At Landmark Supermarket Trinoma Branch yesterday, I saw a huge pile of Colgate Plax Fruity Fresh in 60 ml bottles being sold for just Php 12 each!

I thought that it was just a hoax or merely my eyes playing tricks on me. But the whole thing turned out to be legit! Colgate Plax Fruity Fresh seems to be so new that it hasn't even been included in the Colgate-Palmolive Website yet. :)

What normally would cost us Php70 thereabouts is apparently made available to the public for practically a steal! I don't think anything can be better than that.

Colgate Plax Fruity Fresh:
Contains natural fruit extract with the aromatic taste of fruit and mint,
has a fresh and pleasant feeling in the mouth without a burning sensation.

Well, the fact that it doesn't sting your mouth as much as some Listerine products maybe a piece of good news for some. However, Colgate Plax is a notch stronger than that particular oral rinse-which I've  forgotten the name- that absolutely tastes like water.:) As far as its potential rivalry with Betadine Gargle, I think that both oral rinses may share a similar degree of burning sensation, with Colgate Plax boasting of its fruity fresh flavor more without Betadine's antiseptic taste.

Interested? Grab the newest Colgate Plax Fruity Fresh (60 ml) for just Php 12 at leading supermarkets nationwide.

Two Days at Canyon Cove Beach Club in Nasugbu, Batangas

On the last day of November last year, the whole clan went up to Batangas for our annual get together. For most of us, it was our first time to step foot on this province well-loved for its beautiful beaches and spectacular diving spots. And the fact that it's just a few hours away from Metro Manila is another reason why Batangas remains to be a popular tourist destination.

After a series of happy misadventures during the long drive, we arrived at Canyon Cove Beach Club in Nasugbu at around 1 PM.

Canyon Cove Beach Club in Nasugbu

No sooner had U and M talked to the staff than we found out that check-in time was at 2PM which translated to about an hour's worth of waiting time for us. I found it amusing that despite our hunger and exhaustion combined with the heat, the whole family still managed to smile and be nice to one another.:)

To while away the minutes, we walked around the place trying to get some Facebook-worthy pics at least. :) When I saw the pool from afar, I can't help but exclaim how refreshing it looked!

Up close, the water sparkled and sashayed to the beat of human motion. I almost jumped right into it fully-clothed! :-)

When I looked above, I can't help but be captivated by the gorgeous view which even Instagram with its many wonderful effects can't fully capture.

Canyon Cove Beach Club in Nasugbu

Alas! After the long wait, we finally managed to go inside our assigned rooms much to our sheer delight!

Canyon Cove Beach Club in Nasugbu

The room looked so comfy and emitted a homey feel altogether. I guess Tutapel felt the same way because I didn't need to nudge him to smile and look excited for the camera. :)

On this note, please allow me to give you a tour of our room just so you'll have an idea on what to expect during your visit.

Tutapel's finally exhausted! Really?

My favorite part of the room was that bed right beside the window. It was the best spot, I think, for viewing the gorgeous beach as well as stunning sunrises and spectacular sunsets.:)

The room also boasted of a balcony that we normally ran to not only to catch some fresh air but also to listen to the music being blasted from downstairs.

How about the bathroom, you may ask? Well, here are just some of the photos that I managed to get:

Canyon Cove Beach Club offers free breakfast buffet with every overnight stay. Sadly, their food choices were not that diverse and not as tasty as we've expected. On the second day, the food became a little better, at least. :)

Another fun thing happened while we were there. My niece Erika recognized one of the supporting stars (the one in red) of Tiktik the Movie, who happened to be the resto's manager. Through the prodding of Momshie Leng, her mom, we were able to get this cute pic with him. :)

The Luistros @ Canyon Cove

The best part of Canyon Cove was the beach! It was really something to behold! Clear blue skies painted over sparkling waters and almost pristine sand... What more can you ask for? Visitors also have the option to celebrate the magnificent view by doing some kayaking for a fee.

Canyon Cove Beach Club in Nasugbu

White deck chairs surrounded the beach proved to be helpful for those of us not used to walking or running on sand; but, due to the chair-visitor ratio, the chairs were almost always occupied.

Although the sand wasn't as pristine white as Boracay's, Canyon Cove's still fared quite well, if you ask me. It was only around that time that I realized how Tutapel loved the sand and the beach! :) And of course, if he's happy, I'm happy. ;)

Here's my happy pose! :)
