Optimum Nutrition's Delish Rocky Road Flavor In A Portable 2 Pound Tub ♪♪♪

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey in Rocky Road

I feel elated whenever I look at my newest Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein purchase. For instance, the mere mention of Rocky Road on its packaging unveils a spirit of optimism inside me despite the heavy rains and strong winds predicted to hover over Luzon for the next 24 to 36 hours or so.

What sets the Rocky Road flavor apart from other Optimum Nutrition variants such as Double Chocolate and Vanilla is the fact that Rocky Road is way creamier, tastier and a tad richer! It's interesting because it really does remind me of rocky road ice cream just in healthier form. And that's what makes the whey product better than ice cream in a variety of levels.

Portable Optimum Nutrition Whey in Rocky Road

The fact that I purchased this particular Optimum Nutrition product in a 2 pound tub proves wise too. I can take it practically anywhere I wanna go, including a quick evacuation when the weather is not at its peachiest!

Sayonara Haagen-Dazs Philippines!

When I learned that Haagen-Dazs Philippines slashed its ice cream products down to a whopping 50%, I just thought that it was to accompany the closing of some of their branches.

What I didn't realize at the time was that it was actually a clearance sale as General Mills, the brand's exclusive distributor, decided to shut down Haagen-Dazs' operations in the Philippines!

Before that particular business decision came to play, General Mills was even planning to put up at least 5 to 10 more shops in Metro Manila.

Haagen-Dazs Cafe SM Megamall

But the plan never took shape as the brand failed to draw more customers which the company attributes to "an increasingly challenging business environment."

We don't have to be an expert to understand that the market is being dominated by rival Selecta and the numbers concur as it continues to enjoy its 70% market share which is further cemented by the success of  Magnum.

Haagen-Dazs' biggest problem here in the Philippines is that it can't compete with the prices set down by Selecta and other companies, including that of independent stalls found inside the mall. But as far as quality is concerned, no one can deny Haagen-Dazs ice cream's topnotch taste!

As Haagen-Dazs prepares to take its final bow here in the Philippines, I, for one want to say my simple thanks for all the delightful memories we had with the said ice cream brand.

Thanks for making our bonding time more fun!

A big thanks for making our family time more special!

With a heavy heart, we say:

Sayonara slow-melting ice cream!

Sayonara Haagen-Dazs Fondue!

Come to the Japanese Print Making (Ukiyo-e) Workshop for Kids this Saturday, July 28 at the Ayala Museum!

When we talk about Japanese Art in general, there is a tremendous chance that any of these five genres will pop in mind:

1.  Ikebana: The Art of Flower Arrangement

 2.  Tea Ceremony & The Kimono

      3.  Calligraphy

                                     4.  Kabuki: Classical Dance-Drama

5. Pottery

What we don't know is that there is another significant genre worth mentioning that shaped Japanese art and culture as well as the others. I, for one have learned about it a decade or so ago when we went to the Edo-Tokyo Museum.  It is called Ukiyo-e.

Ukiyo-e (pronounced as ukijo-e) is a variety of Japanese woodblock prints (or woodcuts) and paintings churned out between the 17th and the 20th centuries which showcase an array of themes from landscapes to historical tales to theatre.

What's even more impressive is the fact that "Ukiyo-e is credited to have greatly influenced artists from the Impressionist and Art Nouveau movements when Japanese woodblock designs became widely popular in Europe in the mid-nineteenth century."

Today, this art form is once again gaining prominence thanks to modern artists who are making reprints of the works of Toshusai Sharaku- one of Japan’s most influential masters of ukiyo-e woodblock printing!

Here's a glimpse at how Ukiyo-e is usually done today:

And the best thing is...

Ayala Museum is bringing Ukiyo-e back to life here in the Philippines via two outstanding events:

Firstly, an Ukiyo-e exhibit entitled Sharaku Interpreted by Japan’s Contemporary Artists running from July 10 – September 16, 2012!

And secondly, a Print Making Workshop For Kids!

Let your child explore this genre of Japanese art by creating his or her own printed masterpiece using unconventional materials. Workshop is designed for children ages 5-10 and is free with every purchase of Ayala Museum admission ticket.

Entrance pass is just Php 75 for kids. Parents can assist their child during the workshop by simply paying the Php 150 entrance pass. Fully Booked card holders enjoy a 50% discount on admission.

Does The New Selecta Hershey's Whoppers Malted Milk Balls Give You A Whoppin' Good Time? ♪♪

The New Selecta Hershey's Whoppers Malted Milk Balls

From the decadent Selecta Hershey's Ice Cream Collection comes their newest selection Whopper Malted Milk Balls frozen delight launched just a month ago.

Selecta Hershey's Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

So how does it fare with its other siblings say my ultimate fave Reese's? At first glance, I thought that it would be as creamy and as sweet. But looks can be deceiving for as soon as I tasted it, I can't help but blurt out, "is this Korean ice cream or what?" If you've tasted one, you might have noticed that most Korean ice cream selections  are not as sweet as their Filipino counterparts.

Whether it's a plus factor or not really depends on one's taste and preference. With the exception of Melona and Cle'dor, I find that some Korean ice cream variants  don't provide the same sugar rush "dahil bumibitaw ang lasa nila sa dulo."

The New Selecta Hershey's Whoppers Malted Milk Balls

I had a similar feeling when I tasted Selecta Hershey's Whoppers Malted Milk Balls- a direct opposite to how I was flipping over its Reese's sibling between bites!

Infused with Sweet 'n' Crunchy Hershey's Whoppers Malted Milk Balls!

However, if you don't exactly have a sweet tooth or just plain bored with the same sweet frozen stuffs being offered in the market today, you might find Selecta Hershey's Whoppers Malted Milk Balls a delightful diversion because it's significantly light tasting with only a blast of sweetness coming from the Hershey's Whoppers Malted Balls.

Lovin' That Squeaky Clean Feeling & Non-Eye Stinging Element of L'OCCITANE En Provence Immortelle Brightening Cleansing Foam ♪♪♪

L'OCCITANE En Provence Immortelle Brightening Cleansing Foam

Using an authentic facial foam is quite new to me. What I usually do is to mix my favorite cream-type facial wash with water to create a realistic foam. But with L'OCCITANE En Provence Immortelle Brightening Cleansing Foam, I don't have to do that.

All I need is a single squirt to clean my entire face; a double dose if I want an extra helping of that lovable foam. At first though, I pumped the bottle thrice, four times even, because I thought the foam was too light to touch which made me wonder if it was indeed enough. I soon found out that a single dose was truly enough which prompted me to give it a nod of satisfaction.

 L'OCCITANE En Provence A L'Eau Florale D' Immortelle Biologique

The clean scent reminds me of a "germicidal soap" dotted with fragrant flower petals in the upper register which I find adorable. Combined with the light foam, I find myself washing my face every so often- which is of course not ideal- but thankfully hasn't stripped my face off some needed moisture.

When it comes to its supposed brightening function, I must say that to a certain degree, there is such result because I found my pores slightly minimized and my over-all skin smoother and more-even-toned. Another good point would have to be that it didn't sting my eyes at all! But what is truly commendable is the idea that I'm pampering my face with a single squirt!

The only downside would have to be its price tag. It costs way higher than my perennial faves such as Etude House Happy Teatime and Kracie (Kanebo) Naive Facial Cleansing Foam.  But if you have extra bucks, you might want to give  L'OCCITANE En Provence Immortelle Brightening Cleansing Foam a try for that extra-spa-like feel!
