Jollibee Hash Brown Burger: Yummy or Yucky?

Whenever we're at Jollibee, their steaming hot macaroni soup always makes it to my order list alongside  Tutapel's fave cheese fries and Bala's yum burger. But last week, my taste buds went haywire and demanded Jollibee's newest "it" creation.

Yes, you guessed it right. It's the Jollibee Hash Brown Burger!

As soon as it arrived, he blurted out his trademark question borrowed from that all too famous educational cartoon, Ni Hao Kailan. I'm not sure though if it was Kailan, Hoho, Tolee or Rintoo who was fond of saying that. All I know is that it wasn't YeYe (Grandfather) at all. LOL

I tried giving him a piece of the hash brown burger but he found it too thick for comfort.

I don't know. When I first looked at it, I wasn't drawn to take a bite due to its somewhat soggy vibe. Although, I love ketchup, I prefer to put it myself and not someone else slather it for me.

But when I bit into it, my apprehensions were laid to rest. For it was YUMMO from the first bite to the last! What's not to like? The yumburger patty sizzles with a slice of cheese and wrapped in two deliciously baked hash browns.

That's right. Baked is the operative word here.

But one baked hash brown, according to livestrong.com has 319 calories and 19.91. grams of fat. So if I were to eat two, I'll be taking in a whopping 638 calories and 39.82 grams of fat!

But of course, that's not written in stone yet. Not until Jollibee issues their own calorie counter just like what McDonald's did, at least with their hash brown. Now we know that 1 Mcdo hash brown has 150 calories and 9 grams of fat. So it's safe to say that their counterpart has similar numbers working for them.

With all the fanfare focused on the hash browns, we haven't gotten to the patty  and cheese yet.

But truth is, despite all the math, we still want to get a taste of this ingenious creation.

The trick? Cut it in half and share it with someone you love. You're not only sharing the love, but the calories as well!

Food for the Rainy Days: Ma Chicken Mami House Trinoma

Pedring was one stubborn typhoon acting up like a toddler who's deprived of his favorite toy.

With gushing winds unrepentant by the minute, I can't help but pack our bags just in case the La Mesa Dam spills over and wreaks havoc in all of Metro Manila once again!

Outside the house, I told Tutapel about the "strong winds;" to which he replied, "windy!"

I can't help but laugh for having been corrected by a three year old.

I remember that it was on a day such as this that Bala, Tutapel and myself enjoyed a steaming bowl of Mami at Trinoma.

Yeah. Nothing beats this kind of comfort food during the rainy days.

Heartifying! At least, that's how I remembered our food choices that day.

Mami at Siopao for Two (Php 218)

                                           Two Binondo Mami

                                                         and

                                            Two Honey-Cured Pork Pao

Served hot and bears an exotic appeal thanks to the pork's mixture of unique spices.

Pork and egg slices, veggies and flat noodles swim in a distinct yet flavorful broth garnished with leeks and green onions. It made me wonder though what the back story was for naming this dish Binondo Mami.

Kikiam (Php 78). What made my dining extra special was this kikiam! It had a crisp skin but a soft, chewy center. If it weren't for our movie date, I would have ordered two more servings of this yummy fried dish. This is most certainly a must-try!

Black Gulaman with Sago (Php 68).

Take a peek at their menu.

Ma Chicken Mami House is the latest offspring from the family of North Park restaurants founded by the Soon brothers.

Visit their small resto at the 5th Level, Trinoma Mall to enjoy more of their specialties.

Bonding over Hinilawod at the CCP

My bronchitis didn't stop me from watching Hinilawod last September 4 at the CCP Main Theater. With a battalion of four-1 niece and 3 nephews-I spearheaded our one-of-a-kind cultural escapade, well sort of. I forgot to bring a map for my 18 year-old nephew that he could navigate from resulting in a series of wrong turns and late arrivals.

We were left famished by the road trip and decided to dine first before going to the musicale.

After around twenty minutes of going around the mall, we finally settled for the Bacolod Chk-n-BBQ House  located at the food strip around Mall of Asia.

Actually, I was quite pleased because they offered affordable set meals for group clients. Imagine, our choice,  Set 3, was just worth Php 880.

                                                    With Kathlynish and Kristiany

Pao and Chix sporting the "I'm a tough guy look"

As expected, while waiting for the food, we started our usual picture taking or in the vernacular "kodakan."

They first served a tower of some chilled iced tea.

Then, a huge serving of Java Rice topped with "Taba ng Talangka"(Crab Paste) was placed on the table.

Next, a sizzling plate of some Chili Seafood.

A steaming hot bowl of Sinigang  na Bangus (milkfish).

Another hot plate of Tuna Sisig.

A serving of some delicious Crispy Crablets which disappeared in a matter of minutes.

After dinner, we rushed to CCP. Since we didn't know where to park, a funny thing happened. We left the car at the employees' parking area and went through a labyrinth of wrong turns before we arrived at the Main Theater to watch  Hinilawod

As a celebration of all the craziness that happened from the time we left MOA, we flashed our signature "V" sign in these photos.

Watching Hinilawod was like unveiling a piece of our past that has been left hidden from us for centuries. It offers an interesting approach in bridging this gap by combining history, music, dramatics and interesting stage design and props. The result? A sparkling and unforgettable glimpse at pre-historic Philippines like never before.

No wonder the audience huddled outside the theater and enthusiastically went for several photo-ops with the very congenial cast. Imagine, all the cast members were positioned in different parts of the hallway and welcomed anyone who wanted a photo taken with them. What's beautiful was that despite the fact that they just performed and all, they managed to accommodate photo-ops with grace and kindness.

Kathlynish and Kristiany were very happy to get their picture taken with one of the highly-esteemed cast members. See? He was all smiles! Unfortunately, my camera ran out of batteries. Oh! I was so disappointed that night!

We settled for Kristiany's camera phone and somehow it washed away my disappointment.

To sum it all, bonding over Hinilawod was truly one of the best times we ever had as a group! I truly pray that someday soon, we can watch it again in Dumaguete City, the musicale's birthplace.

The Great Neutrogena Battle: Fine Fairness Lotion vs. Fine Fairness Cream vs. Brightening Serum

To say that I was overwhelmed when I claimed my free Neutrogena Fine Fairness Range Kit is clearly an understatement.

Aside from the fact that I got them for free, another factor that concerned me was how to use each product properly for optimum results minus those pesky side effects.

Neutrogena Fine Fairness Day Lotion

Neutrogena Fine Fairness Lotion PHP 719.75

Of course, nothing beats the old-fashioned approach of simply reading the labels. Here's what's indicated:
"Its SPF 30 formula helps to shield skin from darkening, photo damage, UVA and UVB while it also helps whiten skin from within by reducing the appearance of melanin and uneven pigmentation. Oil-free"

What I Found Out To Be True
Ten days after using this lotion every morning, I've already noticed that my skin somehow lightened. I told myself, " I guess everything they put on the label is true enough." The lotion is very light with a milky hue that spreads on skin quite easily.

Neutrogena Fine Fairness Brightening Serum

Neutrogena Fine Fairness Brightening Serum PHP 999

Unlike the Neutrogena Fine Fairness Brightening Serum, the Fine Fairness Day Lotion didn't induce skin peeling at all which makes the lightening process much longer compared to the Brightening Serum's "one-tone fairer and glowing effect" in as little as two weeks.

My verdict?
If you want to see results much faster, try the Neutrogena Fine Fairness Brightening Serum instead of the Fine Fairness Lotion or use both if budget permits.

Neutrogena Fine Fairness Night Cream

Neutrogena Fine Fairness Cream PHP 774.75

According to the label
The cream's whitening complex contains essential soy which works within the skin's surface to boost the whitening process, while helping to reduce the appearance of melanin and pigmentation. Oil-free.

Just like the Fine Fairness Lotion, the Fine Fairness Cream has a very light consistency and is absorbed quite rapidly by the skin. As far as lightening effect is concerned, after using it exclusively for almost two weeks during the trial period, my skin exhibited similar results as to the time that I used the Fine Fairness Lotion. Somewhat lighter, that's how my skin looked like; but, I didn't see the "one-tone fairer, glowing effect" that I got after using the Neutrogena Fine Fairness Brightening Serum.

Of course, you'll have a greater shot at skin lightening when you use the complete range. But if you were on a budget, you might want to choose the Neutrogena Fine Fairness Brightening Serum over the Fine Fairness Lotion and Cream because you will see the lightening effect much faster because of the micro-peeling involved. As to any product, try dabbing a little bit of the serum on the inside of the elbow and let it stay for 48 hours to keep potential allergies at bay.

Do stay tuned for my next review on the Neutrogena Fine Fairness Masks (PHP 990 per pack of five sheets).
